Internet of things platform

An internet of things platform is the software that sits behind smart devices. It connects them, collects their readings, shows them on a dashboard, and sends alerts when something's wrong. Big companies run large platforms for thousands of sensors. A small business usually uses the app that comes with its devices, or a home-and-small-business hub that works with several brands. The main choice is whether your devices can share one app or need one each. A venue with smart locks, cameras, and heating controls from three brands may juggle three apps. Choosing devices that work with one hub makes life simpler. Check that alerts reach the right person, even after hours.
