Deep learning

Deep learning is a kind of AI that learns by looking at huge numbers of examples, using layers of maths loosely inspired by the brain (the industry calls them neural networks). It's the technology behind most modern AI, including tools that write text, recognise faces in photos, turn speech into words, and translate languages. You don't need to build deep learning models to benefit from them. Every time you use ChatGPT, Claude, or a phone that sorts your photos, you're using deep learning someone else built. For a small team, the practical question is which ready-made tool fits a job in your week. Deep learning is powerful, but it can't explain its answers well, so check anything important.
