Cognitive computing

Cognitive computing is an older term for AI that tries to work the way people think. It reads text, understands questions, weighs up evidence, and learns from feedback. Much of what was called cognitive computing ten years ago now sits inside everyday AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. For a small team, the name doesn't matter much. What matters is what the AI can do in your week. It can read a supplier invoice and pull out the totals, sort enquiries by topic, or draft an answer from your course notes. It still makes mistakes, especially with unusual cases, so a person checks anything that goes to a customer.
