Applied artificial intelligence

Applied artificial intelligence is AI doing a real job, rather than AI as an idea or a demo. For a small team, that job is usually something you do the same way every week. We work with a five-person online homewares store that typed 60 supplier invoices a month into Xero. An AI helper (the industry calls it an agent) now reads each invoice from the inbox and drafts the bill in Xero, and the bookkeeper checks and approves them in one sitting a week. Invoices in other currencies still get done by hand, because they need judgement the AI helper doesn't have yet. That's applied AI at small-team scale. It takes one clear job, does it well, and leaves the tricky cases with a person.
